Brendan Taylor, Special Counsel
Brendan leads the employment law practice and has over 20 years’ experience.
Brendan advises across a wide variety of industries on all aspects of employment law. He provides strategic advice to clients on an extensive range of industrial matters, from managing employee issues such as misconduct, to complex advice concerning industrial strategy.
Brendan’s practice has a focus on employment litigation. He has appeared in the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the Federal Circuit Court and Family Court of Australia, the Fair Work Commission, the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission and the Industrial Magistrates Court.
Some recent matters include:
- acted for a mining services company in defending restraint of trade litigation in the Supreme Court of Western Australia;
- acted for steel importing company defending underpayment allegations in the Federal Court;
- acted for a local government in defending a general protections application in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia;
- acted for engineering company defending allegations in the Industrial Magistrates Court that various contractors were employees;
- advised a local government on its obligations under a maximum term contract of employment;
- advised a transport company on how to effect a transfer of business in an outsourcing arrangement to save on worker’s compensation premiums;
- acted for a farming and tourism group defending prosecution by Fair Work Ombudsman for underpayment of wages.
Brendan is a member of the Industrial Relations Society of Western Australia and holds a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney.
